Annihilation Classic (2009)

This collects the origin stories of some of the major cosmic characters that took center stage in Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest.

Honestly, I wasn’t really interested in those, the only reason because I bought it was because of the Rocket Raccoon mini from 1995, which had art by Mike Mignola. Sadly, that was the weakest part of the whole collection. The art by Mignola never really shined, the weird and wacky world of Rocket Raccoon doesn’t play to his strengths. Also, the plot and setting was ridiculous and the story far too long. Overall, pretty boring.

What saved the collection where some of the origin stories, which were actually fun to read (Nova, Quasar, Adam Warlock). The origin of Starlord was pretty stupid though, the retelling in Annihilation Conquest was much better. Overall, it’s not really the strongest comic collection out there and only of interest to those who really liked the Annihilation crossovers and want the earliest appearances of these character collected in one place. For the rest, there’s better stuff out there.
