Iga Ninden Gao (1993)

A Ninja Gaiden/Shinobi-lookalike (futuristic tech and old Japan esthetics) for the PC-Engine with nice (background) graphics, but rather uninspired and bland stages. The level design feels amateurish, no variety, no clever platforming. Pretty much all you do is walk from one end to the other end of each stage, fighting the same three enemy types ad nauseaum until the next stage and so on.

There’s no skill to the fighting either, it’s all monotonic button-mashing until the end. Most of the enemies also get reused in later levels, even if they don’t match the style and soon you’re going to get sick of seeing them again and again.
