Blood: The Last Vampire (2000)

A very tight girl-hunts-vampires movie that clocks in at around 45 minutes. It’s set in 1966 and tales place on an army base in Japan, where the vampire hunter goes undercover in a school to root out a couple vampires. The biggest difference of Blood to something similar like Buffy is that Saya, the vampire hunter, shows basically no emotions apart from anger. Her entire demeanor seems off, which clues you in pretty soon that this is no cliche anime-high-school girl with superhuman powers, but an old being that doesn’t give a crap about appearing nice and social. She’s abrasive and rude to humans and has a 100-percent focus on hunting down the vampires.

Due to the short running time there’s not much more to tell. Animation is top-notch, with great action scenes that remind me more of Japanese live-action samurai movies (short cuts, fast deaths) instead of the long, drawn-out fights in Animes. The style also tries for something less typical Anime and includes western influences.
