by Richard Morgan
3rd Takeshi Kovacs novel

Synopsis: Takeshi is back on Harlan’s World. It’s the world where he was born, a world with a violent history, like Takeshi himself. Once upon a time someone created a philosophy of resistance, an extremely resistant meme that lies low for a time until it breeds a new resistance against the envois and the other forces who are in power. And there’s also the sky, full of ancient Martian machines that destroy everything that flies too high.

A good closing chapter for Takeshi (if it is indeed the last one). I especially liked the idea of confronting a younger self, the older, more experienced Takeshi against the young version. Great potential, and Morgan uses it to the best possible effect. The plot is good like always and Morgan has some excellent plot twists up his sleeve. It also seems that the Takeshi from Broken Angels has regained some control over his rage issues (I say some, because he is still far from being a nice guy, he just found a way to channel his rage) and become thus a more stable personality. That may have cost him a little of his edge, but in the process he has become more human.
